Lift-and-Shift
Push infrastructure to Cloud. Replicate on-premises applications in the Cloud without any re-design.
Things to consider
Moving to the Cloud has its exceptional benefits such as scalability, agility and, most importantly, cost-efficiency.
Cloud migrations can be strenuous, still. That’s because many on-premises applications require re-design before a move to the Cloud. There are multiple ways to prepare your applications for it. Those include re-architecture and the lift-and-shift approach.
Advantages & Disadvantages
No re-design
The IaaS migration allows enterprises to take an in-house app and replicate it in the Cloud without modifying its design. Because re-designing applications can be costly and time-consuming, the lift-and-shift approach saves considerable more time and money in the beginning
No maintenance
Lift-and-shift is a good option for companies that don’t want to maintain their own physical infrastructure because of high costs and overheads of maintenance from running its own hardware.
Disaster recovery
The lift-and-shift model is also a solid choice for cloud disaster recovery
Higher on-going cost
Applications that are lifted and shifted to the Cloud won’t be able to take full advantage of native cloud features, therefore it’s not the most cost-efficient migration method.
